You do V-tubing but you want to add a bit more life to your PNG avatar. Well... after a few months of development, I would like to present to you...

AVATOON!

A small, quickly-done v-tubing app that lets you animate your PNG avatar with a few more frames using your mic.

This app was based on Scott Falco's ToonTuber concept, with the purpose of making the setup process a bit easier. (I hope...)

Here's what Avatoon can do:

  • Three-frame speech sequence
  • Up to 9 emotive states can be used
  • Bouncy animation (with settings)
  • Quick bouncy transition with custom frame setting.

How to set up:

You'll need OBS Studio if you wish to use this on streams. Or any video software that uses chroma key. (For this example, we'll be using OBS)

Download, extract and run the executable. Then open OBS Studio. Create a new window capture source and select Avatoon as the window to capture.

Then Right click and find filters. Add a Chroma key filter and set the background color as the color to put transparency on.

Developer's note:

This was meant to be an app made to relieve some stress from a rather unfortunate event that happened recently, and I needed something to make content with. That and I needed a refresher.

Keep in mind that it cannot pick up key inputs when unfocused, so it might be a bit hard to use for streaming. But it can definitely be used for making videos and skits. Though it's up to your creativity from here.  Forget this part, global input has been added, at last! You can now switch states off the app, so now you can use this for streams effectively.

Hi, is the source code for this available?   I'd like to modify it to allow being "always on top", and also hide the top menu bar.

No, the source is not available publicly. I mean... I'm still working on it, so I could add an Always-on-top option.

Also, you can toggle the top menu bar's visibility by pressing the 0 key on the Numpad.

okay, I think the "always on top" option is super important, as it's the first thing my daughter asked about so she can record a video tutorial for youtube (using something like obs) and have her avatar in the corner

Aaaah, I see. That's sweet.

Though if it's okay to suggest another method in the meantime. If she is using OBS Studio, she can create a new source that only captures the Avatoon window, resize and pan it to where she'd want it placed in the recording. She could add a chroma key filter to it too.

oh that's great, we don't know how to use it much, so thank you for the great tip!  we'll give that a try
